Зрадa християнського свідчення у зустрічі з диктатором
Beloved in Christ,
(UOCUSA) It is with deep sorrow and righteous indignation that we respond to the recent words of a hierarch of the Orthodox Church in America, who publicly welcomed and complimented the President of the Russian Federation during his visit to this continent.
Such gestures are not merely unfortunate; they are a betrayal of the Gospel of Christ and a scandal to the faithful. At a moment when the Russian regime is responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands, for the disappearance of countless innocents, for the tearing of families apart, and for the deliberate destruction of Ukraine, to extend words of welcome and admiration to its leader is nothing less than the embrace of falsehood.
The Church is called to be the conscience of society, not its accomplice in moral blindness. To exchange pleasantries with a tyrant who wages war and commits atrocities is to dishonor the graves of the fallen, to spit upon the tears of widows and mothers, and to stand deaf before the cries of children who have been orphaned, displaced, and murdered.
Yes, the Church preaches love and forgiveness – but such love can never be divorced from truth, and such forgiveness can never excuse or whitewash evil. When Christ confronted hypocrisy, He denounced it with holy fire. When His apostles stood before rulers, they declared with courage: “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). Today, the Church must show the same boldness, not the cowardice of appeasement.
History remembers with shame those who once smiled at tyrants, who spoke softly to mass murderers, who flattered oppressors in the name of diplomacy or false peace. To repeat such failures today is to stain the witness of the Church, to betray the very martyrs who shed their blood for truth, and to scandalize the faithful who expect their shepherds to speak light into darkness.
We declare without hesitation: the Russian president is not a peacemaker, but the author of death and destruction. To call him otherwise is to lie before God and before humanity.
The Church of Christ must stand not with dictators, but with the oppressed. Not with murderers, but with the innocent slain. Not with the powerful who destroy, but with the powerless who cry for help. Anything less is a betrayal of Christian witness.
May the Lord strengthen His people to resist the lies of tyrants and the temptations of false peace. May He grant us courage to stand firm for truth and justice, until the day when His righteousness prevails, and His mercy heals the brokenhearted.

Улюблені у Христі,
З глибоким сумом і праведним обуренням реагуємо на нещодавні слова ієрарха Православної Церкви Америки, який публічно привітав і висловив компліменти Президенту Російської Федерації під час його візиту на цей континент.
Такі жести не просто прикриті; вони є зрадою Євангелія Христового та скандалом для вірних. У той момент, коли російський режим відповідальний за смерть сотень тисяч, за зникнення незліченних невинних, за розрив сімей та за навмисне знищення України, висловлювати слова вітання та захоплення її лідеру – це не що інше, як прийняття брехні.
Церква покликана бути совістю суспільства, а не співучасником у моральній сліпоті. Обмінюватися люб’язностями з тираном, який веде війну та чинить злочини, означає зневажати могили полеглих, плювати на сльози вдів і матерів і стояти глухим перед криками дітей, які стали сиротами, переміщеними та вбитими.
Так, Церква проповідує любов і прощення, але таку любов ніколи не можна відокремити від істини, і таке прощення ніколи не може виправдати чи відбілити зло. Коли Христос протистояв лицемірству, Він засудив його святим вогнем. Коли Його апостоли стояли перед правителями, вони мужньо проголосили: «Бога треба слухатися більше, ніж людей» (Дії 5:29). Сьогодні Церква повинна виявляти таку ж сміливість, а не боягузтво умиротворення.
Історія з соромом згадує тих, хто колись посміхався тиранам, хто м’яко говорив з масовими вбивцями, хто лестив гнобителям в ім’я дипломатії чи фальшивого миру. Повторювати такі невдачі сьогодні – означає заплямувати свідчення Церкви, зрадити тих самих мучеників, які пролили свою кров за правду, і шокувати вірних, які очікують, що їхні пастирі промовлятимуть світло в темряву.
Ми без вагань заявляємо: російський президент не миротворець, а творець смерті та руйнування. Називати його інакше – означає брехати перед Богом і перед людством.
Церква Христова повинна стояти не з диктаторами, а з пригнобленими. Не з убивцями, а з невинно вбитими. Не з сильними, які руйнують, а з безсилими, які волають про допомогу. Все менше – це зрада християнського свідчення.
Нехай Господь зміцнить Свій народ, щоб протистояти брехні тиранів та спокусам фальшивого миру. Нехай Він дасть нам мужність твердо стояти за правду та справедливість до того дня, коли Його праведність переможе, а Його милосердя зцілить розбитих серцем.
